Nicky leads our environment and planning team. She advises government agencies and council-controlled organisations carrying out large infrastructure projects, ranging from new roads, reservoirs, bridges, ferry terminals and hydro-electric power schemes. She works closely with in-house planners, project managers and technical experts, and liaises with in-house counsel.

Nicky also advises businesses and government on the development and interpretation of district and regional planning documents which regulate their activities.

Nicky advises Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga on a range of issues, including in its role as heritage regulator. She also represents the organisation on appeals in the Environment Court, on matters such as the demolition of heritage buildings.

Nicky guides clients through the complexity of the Resource Management Act and other environmental legislation, to obtain planning authorisations in a cost-effective, timely and strategic way.

Nicky has advised:

  • NZ Transport Agency on major infrastructure projects including Transmission Gully, and the Auckland Northern Corridor Improvements project.
  • Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga on its successful appeal to oppose the demolition of McLean’s Mansion in Christchurch.
  • Transpower New Zealand Limited on plan changes to give effect to the National Policy Statement on Electricity Transmission.  
  • Wellington Water Limited on consenting of the Prince of Wales/Omaroro Reservoir project and Pinehaven Stormwater Improvements project. 
  • NZ Transport Agency on development of the Auckland Unitary Plan and the Christchurch Replacement Plan.
