Campbell is a senior associate in our Wellington M&A corporate and commercial team, with a particular focus on technology and privacy. He returned to Kensington Swan in January 2018 after five years living and working as a lawyer in London.

He provides advice on all corporate and commercial matters including corporate governance and M&A, procurement, privacy and data protection, IT agreements (including SaaS, agile and waterfall software development, and traditional licensing),  IP licensing and consumer and marketing law compliance.

He has a particular interest in innovation, payments, fintech and legal tech.

In addition, Campbell has advised numerous clients on compliance with privacy and data protection law, including the implications of the introduction of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for clients based both within and outside the EU, and the implications of New Zealand privacy law reforms.

Since returning to the firm, Campbell's experience includes:

  • advising a global social media platform in relation to its compliance with New Zealand privacy laws;
  • advising a multi-national manufacturer on the New Zealand privacy and consumer law implications of the introduction of IoT (Internet of Things) capability;
  • advising an educational institute on its use and development of learner analytics;
  • advising an Australian-based financial services provider on the joint venture arrangements in connection with its entry into the New Zealand market;
  • advising a major New Zealand trading bank in connection with its procurement of in-branch smart pinpad terminals; and
  • advising a government department on its procurement of a replacement complaint management system, and the privacy implications of the replacement project.

Campbell takes an active interest in the development of privacy law in New Zealand and the intersection of privacy law and technology. He was the co-author of the firm's submissions on the Privacy Bill, and presented those submissions to the Justice Committee on the firm's behalf.
