A NEW REGIME FOR INCORPORATED SOCIETIES – WHAT’S SET TO CHANGE?

After over 100 years serving the not-for-profit sector, the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 is set for a revamp with a draft Incorporated Societies Bill released for public input.

The Bill closely follows the Law Commission’s recommendations, published in a lengthy report back in June 2013. Broadly, the Bill aims to provide an ‘evolution’ rather than a ‘revolution’ of the incorporated society structure, and to modernise and clarify the murkier elements of the 1908 Act. We have analysed the proposed changes with interest.
