Auckland Super City

The creation of the AucklandSuper City’ Council is one of the most significant developments in the structure of our local government. How will councils manage this change? What will the implications be for the provision of council services? How will this impact your business? Where are the opportunities and risks?

Super City Tenders

For any suppliers of goods or services to the existing Councils in Auckland, the times ahead for their business look turbulent, with both threats and opportunities. Numerous tenders are being announced that require contracts to be centralised and contain greater efficiencies. The impacts of the new processes mean that smaller suppliers need to grow and scale in size to meet the expectations of the new Auckland Council. There are many options available including alliances, increasing internal capability, and merging or acquiring competitors. Those who think ahead and take the issue head-on will be the winners.

SuperCity Tenders that have been announced through the Government Electronic Tenders Service include:

  • Mobile phones: This Request for Proposal seeks proposals for the provision of mobile telephony/data services to the Auckland Council (19 July 2010).
  • Mail: The Auckland Council will operate from existing council properties, and in order to conduct business efficiently, the Transition Agency has identified a requirement for an internal courier service to transport documents and other items around the region (12 July 2010).
  • Signage: Establishment of Auckland Council on 1 November 2010 creates the requirement for branding of the new organisation across the Auckland region. The current signage reflects the branding of the existing councils. The proposed solution is to replace this signage with Auckland Council branded signage that complies with the organisations Visual Identity Guidelines (Released 30 July 2010).
