Ian is a Past President of the New Zealand Law Society
and a former President of the Auckland District Law Society.
As a consultant with Kensington Swan,
Ian specialises in commercial property and commercial matters
including developments and joint ventures. He has extensive experience
in the building, construction and local body sectors. He is
frequently engaged as an arbitrator or expert witness in property
related litigation matters.
Utilising his commercial acumen and
expertise in drafting and interpreting contracts, Ian has acted
on major construction and commercial property matters. Ian has
provided advice and legal services on acquisitions and development
work for numerous clients.
Ian has extensive experience in
submissions to Parliamentary Select Committees, Commissions and other
entities. He has had frequent dealings with Government
officials and Ministers and is a skilled lobbyist.
He is well known and respected in
law society circles, both in New Zealand and internationally.
He is the architect of a new model for the governance of the legal
profession on which the Lawyers and Conveyancers
Act is based.
