Bryan is a senior commercial partner in the Wellington office and leader of the firm’s Energy and Climate Change workgroups.

    

He has specialised in energy, resources and related infrastructure projects for many years and has advised on all legal issues facing those who participate in these areas, for example: risk analysis; contract negotiation and preparation; contract analysis; relevant competition law and regulatory regimes; project entities and structures; project financing and project acquisitions and divestments.

 

Bryan is listed by the Euromoney’s Guide to World’s Leading Energy & Natural Resource Lawyers and the International Who’s Who of Oil and Gas Lawyers as one of the world’s leading energy and oil and gas lawyers; he is described by the Client Guide to New Zealand Law Firms as “having considerable expertise” and an “excellent reputation” in this field.

 

Bryan has acted for the New Zealand Government, multinationals and other private sector companies in relation to the sale of gas and petroleum products, petroleum exploration and development; petrochemicals, coal and electricity projects, including wholesale markets; the distribution and transmission of electricity and gas, gold mining, coal mining and aluminium smelter projects.
 

He also has experience in the corporatisation and privatisation of state enterprises, acquisitions and divestments; sale and purchase of petroleum products and licensing of technical know-how. More recently, he has experience in emission trading and related climate change issues.
 

Bryan also has extensive experience in the economic regulation and trade practice law issues.
 
He is the co-author of ‘Resource Management’, Thompson & Brookers and ‘Energy Laws, Laws of New Zealand’, Butterworths, and is a regular conference speaker and commentator.
